Norton disk doctor indir1/23/2024 And, on one particularly entertaining package, garbed in a garage-style uniform with a “Peter” label, working on a humongous floppy disk jacked up in the air. Poking around the Web, I found images of him just sort of standing there (in a pink shirt), leaning on computers, hanging out with co-authors, brandishing toolboxes and hourglasses, wearing a stethoscope, and performing magic tricks with gears. Still, even in the Windows age, the crossed-arm Norton was so famous that I remembered it as appearing on all his software products and books. It had less to do with the programs which Peter Norton himself had begun writing in the early 1980s. When Norton software switched to Windows, along with the entire utility industry, it got more bloated and tended to go after a larger, more consumery, less nerdy audience. No disrespect meant to later, Windows-based Norton products–they’ve rescued my computer on more than one occasion–but for me, the golden age of Peter Norton’s software was when it was mostly DOS-based, lightning fast, and let you dig deeply into your computer. I also swore by NCACHE and Speed Disk, two utilities which were superior to their Microsoft equivalents. I used both of them more than once to recover from disaster, back when hard disks crashed a lot more often than they do today. I was particularly fond of Disk Doctor, which repaired corrupted hard drives and Disk Editor, which let you view and edit the data on your disk byte-by-byte. I started using MS-DOS PCs on a regular basis in 1991, and that’s when I became a user of Norton software. (Don’t hold me to this, but I could swear that at least one version of the Norton Utilities sported an interface featuring an animated version of Peter.) (I’d forgotten that he didn’t wear glasses all along, at least when posing for photographs: Once he did, it added to his authoritative air.)Īnd here, in an image which I find vaguely unsettling, is a folded-arm, pink-shirt Norton in a very early (1991) ad for Norton AntiVirus, which eventually became the best-known Norton-branded product:Įsther, who seems to have done a better job of holding onto interesting computer-industry tchotchkes than I have, still has her Peter Norton Mug:Īs the image below, which I borrowed from this blog post, shows, cross-armed Norton was not only iconic, but also a computer icon. Here, on a Norton manual cover, is the folded-arm Norton as he’s remained burned into my brain all these years. He was a pro, but he was also ready to get to work on whatever ailed your computer. Here it is in an early incarnation, on a best-selling 1985 tome which Wikipedia informs me was known as the “pink shirt book.”īoth the formality of the necktie and the rolled-up sleeves of the classic Norton pose are meaningful. (In the 1990s, a friend of mine wrote a book with Norton: By then, I gathered, writing a book with Peter Norton involved…well, pretty much writing a book.)Īnd all along, that image of a thoughtful-looking computer nerd with crossed arms was instantly recognizable. And then, in 1990, he sold Peter Norton Computing to Symantec, which made the Norton line of software even more successful.Īfter the sale, Peter Norton himself retained a high profile as a living symbol of PC maintenance his personal brand was so powerful that it transcended his actual involvement in products which bore his name. Norton’s empire grew to include multiple software products, articles (including a long-running PC Magazine column), and books. Its killer app: UnErase, which could recover lost files back before trashcan-style deletion let you change your mind after getting rid of a file. Norton was a mainframe and minicomputer programmer who bought an IBM PC soon after its 1981 release and published an enormously successful suite of software tools, the Norton Utilities, in 1982. I found seeing him again–even without his own head–to be a surprisingly Proustian experience. It’s the torso, rolled-up sleeves and folded arms of Peter Norton, the man who was once synonymous with PC utility software, on a vintage shirt produced to promote one of his products. Recently on Facebook, my friend, nerd extraordinaire Esther Schindler, shared a photograph of herself wearing an old T-shirt and challenged her followers to identify it:Įither you have no idea what that image means, or you know exactly what it is.

Exterior landscape lighting ideas1/23/2024 The International Dark Sky Association (DSA) suggests using lighting that is warm or a lower color temperature - no more than 3,000 Kelvins (the higher the Kelvin, the bluer it is). Blue lights brighten the sky more than any other color. Dark-sky-friendly lighting is shielded (points downward) and contains minimal blue light. Many communities are implementing dark sky initiatives and codes to regulate light pollution. Plus, too much artificial light can affect human health, wildlife and is a waste of energy. Dark-sky-friendly lighting: Light pollution makes it impossible or nearly impossible to see the night sky in populated areas. This type of lighting is more about being attractive and setting a mood and less about safety or security. It is most often placed high - about 20’ to 25’ - in a tree to cast dappled light through the tree’s canopy. Moonlighting is downward-facing floodlights that are meant to mimic natural moonlight. Moonlighting: This type of lighting came on the scene a few years ago and is still gaining in popularity.Smart LED color-changing lightbulbs start around $15 and can be installed into most existing fixtures. There are several low-voltage and solar path lighting kits, spotlights, outdoor lamps and even 100’ long LED strip lights that can be programmed to flash to the beat of your music. They are DIY friendly, often Bluetooth enabled and most operate off a remote or app. Color changing lights: Lighting up your landscape in various hues for holidays and special occasions is easier than ever. So, homeowners are splurging on more stylized lighting that makes a statement and heightens the home’s architecture. High-end fixtures that look like fancy indoor lighting: Whereas a lot of landscape lighting is hidden, front porch lanterns, sconces and overhead fixtures are out in the open for all to see.Other portable options to keep an eye out for are floor lamps, table lamps and hanging lightbulbs - these are portable lightbulbs that you can hang on a hook, perfect for camping. Plus, they are waterproof so go ahead and place them poolside or in a water feature. Many of these lights run on smart technology so you can program timing, color and brightness. These glowing orbs and cylinders can serve as art or furniture as well as lighting. LED wireless “lamps” come in a variety of sizes and shapes - cubes, globes or oval river rocks are the most common. Portable lighting We’re talking more than just lanterns, candles and tiki torches.

Mc command center patreon1/23/2024 One tip we’ve learned over the years is that you might be able to rule out entire sections of files with two basic tests: (Don’t worry, if you DO happen to save your main file this way, just come right away and ask us on Discord how to recover from it.) Make a copy of your save file, to safeguard against accidentally saving while your mods and cc are not in the game. Without benefit of MCCC’s mc_lastexception.html error file to help dig for errors, once you have your game-only test run completed, the next thing to do would be a 50/50. Most of the time, we would actually recommend a “mc-vanilla” test, which means to ONLY leave MCCC in your mods folder… but in the case of a Big Patch, until Deaderpool has a chance to evaluate (and hotfix) MCCC for code changes that might cause the mod to give you unexpected issues in game, “true vanilla” (mod/cc free) would be where to start testing.īy the way, if you need help getting your files organized ahead of the patch, you can find a downloadable Mods folder template here, courtesy of Shino Nox. You need this “game only” benchmark to see how things are supposed to behave, or to see if what isn’t working properly is a problem in the game code, itself. There’s no guarantee the game can’t see them anyway, so for the cleanest test, we always say to move the files out into a folder on the Desktop. We on Deaderpool’s Discord recommend taking all of your mods/cc OUT, not leaving them sitting “turned off” (disabled) in your Mods folder. This is fine, we’re expecting a lot of things to break, and this time, it most likely will include MCCC. When you load up after the patch, Mods and CC are going to be disabled by EA. It’s almost time, the Infants are Coming!! Before the patch on March 14 breaks mods and custom content in preparation for the March 16 Sims 4 Growing Together expansion pack, I thought I’d run through a few things you’ll need to know about, ahead of time. Bring a positive attitude, and your popcorn, and get ready to see the show… it’s going to be a rocking week!įirst Call, Sims 4 Infants Patch is Coming Soon!! If we all can work together, we can minimize patch fallout in many ways. This is not our first rodeo, you can trust us to help get you through the damage and back into your game, in the most painless way we can manage. Don’t be that person, just keep an eye on the various #mods-news type channels, Scarlet’s list, Luth’s forum post, and so on. They’re all aware this patch is likely to break things, and they would rather spend their time updating their mods and cc for us, than having to respond to tons of “your stuff broke!” posts on their pages. Please do not pester creators for information. If you’re familiar with our server’s layout, please help new people find their way around. If you speak more than one language, we’d LOVE to add you to our group of Interpreters helping in #bilingual-support. If you’re a long-time player, please watch out for the new players, if this is someone’s first patch, they’re likely to be pretty shocked at the damage. Don’t get angry about it, just remind us, and we’ll move forward from there. There’s no need to bump your post, or poke us, unless it’s obvious your post has been skipped, after a few minutes/posts around yours are being handled. We’ll do our best to get to everyone as soon as possible. Expansion patches are legendary for being super-busy. Otherwise, pick one channel on one server, and stay there.īE PATIENT. The exceptions would be, if staff refers you elsewhere, to either a different channel, or to a separate discord server, in order to better address your issues. If you don’t use two lanes at once in a brick and mortar store, why would you try doing it online? It’s confusing and not efficient for anyone trying to work with you. Don’t try us.ĭon’t post the same thing in multiple channels, and don’t post the same thing on multiple servers simultaneously. We have no issue with banning people who can’t behave properly on Deaderpool’s discord. We’re not getting paid to help you, and we don’t have to put up with rudeness, disrespect, trolling, and so on. The people manning support channels are volunteers. Pay close attention to the types of mods/cc/creators who may very well get you banned. We’re going to be getting slammed by people with broken mods/cc, please do your part to make things easier on everyone involved, on any server you visit. We always know who doesn’t bother to read it, by the questions we see in support. Tomorrow is the day most of us have been waiting for, the patch to prepare Sims 4 for INFANTS!!! It promises to be busy on support Discords, so I thought I’d start off with a few essential things you should know about getting help from Deaderpool’s server.įirst of all, READ our #server-info channel!!! There is a lot of information there that will streamline your experience with us.

Odb hippa to da hoppa lyrics1/23/2024 A 1993 appearance on the Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show made such an impression on Dante Ross, an A&R at Elektra records, that he took a cab straight to the radio station. He was like a shooting star leaving a trail of colourful dust behind for everyone to bear witness."ĭespite appearing on just a third of the Wu's debut, Dirty had a solo deal lined up before the album was released. We the mighty, mighty Wu-Tang but Dirty was the one who put the Wu in the Tang, man. His style, his aura, even his hair – nobody did it like him. "Dirty was popular right from the door," says fellow Wu member Cappadonna. He combined rock star charisma with an unorthodox sensibility, introducing himself with lines like: "I come with that ol' loco style from my vocal/Couldn't peep it with a pair of bifocals." Each appearance seemed to jolt first-time listeners into the same reaction: "Who the hell is that?" Yet even among a super-group of nine MCs with distinct styles and mysterious monikers, Dirty's half-sung/half-rapped delivery stood out. Their idiosyncratic sound – gritty, dark, aggressive – was built around snippets of the kung-fu films and soul music they'd grown up with. In 1993, the Wu-Tang Clan altered the shape of hip hop with their seminal debut, Enter The 36 Chambers. And then there's all the things he did that nobody had seen before." Part of that his son, Young Dirty Bastard. More importantly, I think he left a legacy behind. "But, to me, he's no less than a Jimi Hendrix or any other great artist who had a nutty way of thinkin'. "People are always going to talk about his personality," says Wu-Tang's Raekwon. Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest said that if you listen to Dirty's lyrics, there's no question that the person behind them is a mastermind. Questlove credited 'Brooklyn Zoo' as being so radical that it changed the way he thought about rap music that it felt as if Screamin' Jay Hawkins had somehow made the best single in hip hop history. Kanye West said he'd cut a piece of his finger off just to have that voice. George Clinton, for instance, believes that Ol' Dirty Bastard introduced a new cadence to music. Somewhere along the line, the qualities that made him special and the esteem he's held in by other artists have become overlooked. But they add little, if anything, to the music. You can find them almost anywhere his name is mentioned. There are enough stories about his brushes with controversy. But as his legal troubles spiralled into a sideshow, I could tell that there was much more to Dirty than the buffoonish caricature he was often portrayed as. Maybe it was the way that, shortly after we shook hands and said goodbye, he marched into traffic – with cars honking and swerving all around him – and disappeared into the blare of rush-hour.Įven as a naive teenager, that encounter felt like a glimpse into a world of which I had no real understanding or experience. Maybe it was the curtain of bloodshot pink that hung halfway over his right eye, so thick that you couldn't see through it. Maybe it was the way he drifted off on a tangent too difficult to follow. I can't pretend there was no sign of it that day. Long before he passed away from an accidental overdose in 2004, two days short of his 36th birthday, his merits as an artist became increasingly overshadowed by his reputation for erratic behaviour. Apart from the occasional sliver of information that slipped through, all I had to go on was the music.Īs that began to change, Dirty's life turned into headline material. Streaming updates about artists and their antics had yet to become all-pervasive. I didn't realise any of that at the time. He'd been in jail, shot at several times and was under surveillance by the FBI. Dirty's demeanour seems all the more remarkable now, looking back, considering the difficulties he was struggling with. He indulged me graciously, laughing when I tried to persuade him to visit Ireland, filling me in on his plans for a new album. Dirty paused for a beat, gazing at me intently, before replying: "Well, I love you too!"Īll these years later, I still can't imagine a better response. I could feel myself trembling, so unsure of what was happening that I said it again. The words just blurted out, tumbling to an awkward halt. Instead some primitive impulse took over, compelling me to stride up to the man and exclaim: "Dirty. So when our paths happened to cross that afternoon, I didn't stop to think the situation through. As a teenager growing up in Ireland, floundering for an identity of my own, the weird world of Dirty felt like a perfect fit. The man seemed fearless: immune to criticism, impervious to judgement. His music felt so unapologetically eccentric, so brazenly unself-conscious, that some of that exuberance rubbed off on you just by listening.

But the whole concept seems to be a little too complex for you, so I'll leave you with this: I wouldn't have if they are ported to other platforms. Yeah, I published those maps publicly, on Steam, and have absolute control about what version is available to people who have subscribed to them. Learn how things work before you speak next time. You're just mad cuz you want something to be mad about and it's pathetic. Remove "your" maps from the workshop, no one cares. Tell me you know nothing about the law without telling me you know nothing about the law. You're using THEIR assets and agreeing to THEIR terms and conditions. You clearly don't understand how these things work. I've published many maps in my life and never once thought "i DoNt WaNt MoRe PeOpLe HaViNg AcCeSs To ThEm." Btw, Team17 owns your maps. There's literally no reason you'd be able to justify this.ĭon't uh. You'd be the only one who has this incredibly stupid mindset. Don't ever become a developer in your entire life. Wtf are smoking.? It's the SAME game except on console. So you wouldn't want people playing your maps that are already free to play through steams version, on the workshop on console? Originally posted by herbstwerk:As someone who has published more than a couple of maps here let me just say that the moment Team17 would announce that they plan to port Workshop Maps from Steam to console, or even float the idea in their communication, is the moment where I'll pull every one off the workshop.ĭawg that makes literally ZERO sense. IDGAF about the player base outside of Steam, I'm also not a T17 shareholder so they can crash and burn or make billions. I don't want to hear a single "bUt WhAt aBouT teH CoMMuNiTy‽". You don't have to be Shakespeare and introduce new words into the English language to be considered worthy of certain rights. That's completely ignoring the potential questions concerning the legality of such a move as the creator certainly has some sort of copyright to their content, but IANAL.Īnd before anyone comes with the great argument that those maps are "just a bunch of already made pieces stuck together", so are 99+% of all literary works. I'm not claiming to speak for everybody who published content for this game, nor do I want to, but I feel like it is highly unlikely that anyone would be happy about their work being taken out of their control and being used to prop up a game on other platforms. As someone who has published more than a couple of maps here let me just say that the moment Team17 would announce that they plan to port Workshop Maps from Steam to console, or even float the idea in their communication, is the moment where I'll pull every one off the workshop.

It’s perfect for getting the most out of your cleanser and a lifesaver when you’re running low – just give it a few squeezes and the Soap Mommy will create enough foam to finish those last few dishes! ResoFoam is also designed to produce even more foam from your soap. This side is super absorbent – 6 times more than leading brands, according to Scrub Daddy – and is great for drying off surfaces. The second side is a more traditional sponge layer made from another exclusive material the brand uses: ResoFoam. The colored side is a layer of Scrub Daddy’s transforming FlexTexture that can stiffen or soften with a simple change in water temperature. The Scrub Mommy is double-sided to easily switch between its two surfaces. The Scrub Mommydoes all that and more with two effective cleaning surfaces – a tough FlexTexture scrubber and a soft sponge. The original Scrub Daddy is a FlexTexture scrubbing sponge that provides both gentle and tough cleansing power for all kinds of surfaces. What’s better than a sponge that can do two types of scrubbing? How about a third function for easy washing and drying?! While in hot water, it becomes flexible and soft, making it great for scrubbing in tight spaces like the insides of a glass. When exposed to cold water, this sponge gets very suitable for scrubbing hard at built-up grime without damaging surfaces. Krause tried them on surface after surface and found his sponges could do just about anything, hence the name Krause would eventually give his patented foam: FlexTexture. Whenever he’d dunk them back into warm water, however, they returned to their original soft state. His invention didn’t take off as planned, and Krause’s initial sponges were cast off for a few years – until he needed a gentle way to clean his lawn furniture at home.Īs Krause cleaned, he realized his polymer foam sponges were seizing up in the chilly air, their scrubbing power strengthening while leaving his furniture scratch-free. Trying to find a better way to clean up at work, Krause looked to his 14 years of working with urethane foam buffing pads, he developed a non-toxic, non-abrasive polymer foam circular sponge with two finger holes punched out of the middle for better control and access to small spaces. Mess and dirty hands were a regular annoyance, and the abrasive cleanser common in the industry just wasn’t cutting it. Prior to inventing the little sponge that could, Scrub Daddy founder Aaron Krause was no stranger to mess as the head of an international manufacturing company. |
